118th ANNUAL EXHIBITION:8th – 15thSeptember 2012
The Annual Exhibition is an exciting opportunity to view high quality members' work across all media, and a chance to buy the exhibits directly from the artists.

- Entry forms to Exhibition Officer by Monday 20th August
- Handing in: Monday 3rd September, 10:30 – 12.00
- Private View: Friday 7th September, 7:00 - 9:00
- Exhibition opens: Saturday 8th September, 10:00 - 5:00
- Exhibition closes: Saturday 15th September, 3:00
- Removal of sold works: Saturday 15th September, 3:00 - 4:30
- General removal of unsold work: Saturday 15thSeptember, 4:00 - 5:00
The Museum will be closed on Sunday and Monday
PLEASE NOTE: Handing in is on Monday 3rd Sept. from 10.30-12.00 am.
Outside these hours the museum is closed.
The 117th Annual Exhibition
17th to 24th September
The Society held another successful annual exhibition in the Haslemere Educational Museum. There were 50 artists exhibiting and 234 items on show.
On the opening Saturday, local professional artist Roger
Dellar demonstrated portrait painting with Haslemere's Mayor, Jim
Edwards as his sitter.

September 2009: The 115th Annual Exhibition
Haslemere Art Society held the 115th Annual Exhibition and Sale, from 12th- 19th September at Haslemere Educational Museum.
A success!
This year's exhibition beat the recession; sales of work were up this year on last year. Sales of portfolio work were notable and it was a good year for ceramics.
We will have more details later and we will include some
pictures, too.
How to find the Museum
If you are coming
into Haslemere from Milford and you see this sight - the Town Hall,
then have missed it! Look the other way, up the hill, and the Museum is
on your right.

You can see the
Museum in the distance.
It is a Georgian building with a pillared portico.

2008 The 114th Annual Exhibition
6th September to 13th September
In 2008, 46 artists showed 194 works in many styles and media; including oils, pastel, watercolour, acrylic, mixed media, stoneware, porcelain, raku, carved limestone, alabaster, slate, wood, clay, perspex, textiles and fabric.Thanks go to all the volunteers who manned the sales desks and stewarded the event.

6th November 2010: Ali Yanya demonstrates
Ali Yanya demonstrated his water colour techniques at a well attended event at the Haslemere Museum. He likes to work from his own sketches of groups of people and paint them in silhouette.
His favourite technique is to use perspective and grades of depth in colour to achieve his transient effects. Some examples are included here.
7th October 2010: The Watts Gallery restoration project
Mark Bills, curator of Watts Gallery, gave an interesting and informative talk on the restoration project at the gallery. The project is well on its way and looks very excitiing.
If you became a "friend" of the gallery you would be among the first to see the restored gallery when it opens - more details can be found on the Watts Gallery website.
3rd September 2010: 116th Annual Art Exhibition opens
The Haslemere Art Society's 116th Annual Art Exhibition opened
with a private view on Friday evening. It was well attended and a
lively occasion. Among the guests were Jeremy Hunt MP and the Town
Mayor Melanie Odell.

Special thanks go to Barbara Murray for taking charge of refreshments and we were all pleased to see that our local MP had taken time out of his busy schedule to be at the event.

24th August 2010: Painting The Town
Haslemere Art Society members took to the streets (Haslemere High Street mainly) on a bright and breezy morning to publicise the forthcoming annual art exhibition by painting outdoors under the gaze of passers by. Several of the paintings were shown later at the exhibition.

18th March 2010: East Anglian Skies - Colin Wilson
There was a very good turnout for Colin's demonstration titled "East Anglian Skies". He is pictured here with an excellent example of what can create with the techniques that he demonstrated.
The appreciative audience had an enjoyable and informative afternoon at the Museum.
25th February 2010: Encaustic Techniques - Carol Ellis
Carol Ellis demonstrated her skill and imagination using encaustic techniques to an appreciative audience at the Haslemere Museum. There was genuine surprise that an apparently simple technique can produce so many textures and blended colour effects.
Carol made the example shown here as we watched. We admired her dexterity and were amazed each time Carol revealed the result of each process.
Appreciation should go to Carol and the audience for braving torrential rain, floods and high winds - it was a wild night.
10th December 2009: Antarctica - Christopher Baker
Christopher
Baker, senior painting tutor at West Dean College, gave a fascinating
talk about the inspiration he had from a trip to Antarctica. He
illustrated it with a short film of the trip and slides of his
subsequent work. The talk and his thoughtful answers to questions from
the audience were much appreciated. (Christopher is pictured here with
Daphne Skeat)
There were mince pies and mulled wine to round the evening off.
19th November 2009: Portrait in Pastels
Ann
Chadwick demonstrated how she goes about making a portrait in pastels.
She described her choice of paper and pastels and passed on many tips
on how to use the materials as she went along. The lively audience
asked questions and had a good view of a very sympathetic and lifelike
portrait of Ron Tanner taking shape.
Many thanks go to Ron Tanner for being a patient and good natured sitter.
12th September 2009: Live painting on show
Roger
Dellar demonstrated painting a portrait in watercolour and gouache in
two hours to an attentive audience on the opening day of the annual
exhibition.
As he painted he described what he was seeing, thinking and doing which gave a fascinating insight into how a professional painter works - many of the audience stayed from the start to the end. Roger Dellar is pictured here at work on the portrait.

11th September 2009: Private View

8th September 2009: Handing in day
The volunteers were busy at the Museum today.The exhibitors hand in their work and then comes the sorting and hanging, keeping track of what's what with care and attention to the admin. There is a lot to do in a day and all concerned deserve a thank you!
September 2009: Annual Art Exhibition
The Society's 115th Annual Art Exhibition starts on the 12th September and runs for one week - see Programme for details.
Preview
This year, 50 artists will be showing their work - 159 framed pictures plus unframed portfolio work and 38 works in the category; ceramics, craft and sculpture.
June 2009: Annual General Meeting
At the 2009 Annual General Meeting the retiring chairman David White stood down after over 10 years on the committee, 4 years as secretary,a period as Exhibition secretary, and finally 4 years as Chairman.
We are grateful for his extensive and dedicated service. All his years of hard work for the society are much appreciated .
The incoming chairman is Daphne Skeate. We are lucky in having someone with her wide experience and knowledge and we look forward to an exciting future under her dynamic leadership.
February 2009: A tale of two potteries
The ceramics enthusiasts enjoyed a fascinating talk on the art and the business of two potteries. The two potteries in the title were Dartington and Grayshott
Several striking pieces were on show to illustrate the talk.
