Celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2007, the Bramshott & Liphook Arts & Crafts Society encourages an interest in arts & crafts within the community. With almost 300 members, there are ample opportunities to share ideas, interests and techniques, to experiment in different media and forms, and to attend talks and presentations by experts and guest speakers.
Members include practising artists and artisans, amateurs of all abilities, and those who are simply interested in anything to do with arts & crafts. Our members relish our friendly, social atmosphere and the chance to develop their knowledge and skills at monthly meetings and Saturday workshops. Our Annual Exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for members to showcase their work within the neighbourhood and is the highlight of the Society's calendar.
Annual membership of the Society is currently only £10 (reductions are offered for prompt payment or for standing orders) which covers entry to monthly evening and afternoon meetings, subsidised prices for Saturday workshops, discounts to art shops, and the opportunity to exhibit and sell work at the Annual Exhibition and Craft Fayre.
BLACS evening meetings cover a wide range of arts & crafts topics and often take the form of practical demonstrations on a variety of two and
three- dimensional techniques. The informative sessions are held in a relaxed environment with a break for refreshments. Meetings are free to BLACS members but visitors are welcomed on the night (non-member ticket price £1.50). For enquiries about meetings or membership, please call Sue Rawlings, BLACS Chairwoman on 01428 725 399.
In January to April 2007, our evening meetings will be held on the first Thursday of the month at the Liphook Village Hall, Headley Road, Liphook. Tuesday 1st May marks a change in both date and venue; from this date the meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at the Liphook Millennium Hall, near Sainsbury's supermarket. All meetings begin at 8pm and end at 10pm with a break for refreshments.
During the year, BLACS offers a series of hands-on Saturday workshops taught by experienced practioners. Workshop topics cover a wide range of arts & crafts topics and run from 10am to 4pm.Classes are kept small to ensure participants enjoy maximum attention from their tutor.
The workshops offer excellent value given the standard of tuition on offer - BLACS provides subsidised places for members with the event priced at £15.00 for the day. Tea & coffee are provided - please bring a packed lunch.
Non- members are welcome to attend these workshops (non-member price £20.00) but given the limited number of places available, BLACS members will be given priority. For all enquiries on topics and venue, please call Caroline Strong, Workshop Secretary on 01730 262 749.
BLACS offers its members another opportunity to share ideas and techniques through monthly Wednesday afternoon untutored sessions at Liphook Village Hall (For a small charge, members may use the Village Hall facilities). From 2- 5pm, members work on their current projects among the companionship and encouragement of their fellow artists. All standards are welcome to these gatherings, from beginners to experienced - and all forms of art and craft encouraged.
Continuing the social and educational theme, members can also join group outings and a summer visit to a notable artist's studio (followed by a very sociable meal at a nearby pub or restaurant!). In 2007, there are plans to visit the Arts & Crafts Show in Alexander Palace amongst other places of interest.
Silver Jubilee Exhibition & Craft Fayre 6th-8th October 2007
Each year, the community is invited to the BLACS Annual Exhibition where members display their work and craft pieces. This is the highlight of our calendar and is very well attended. Visitors are impressed by the high standard of work on show and are invited to nominate their favourite piece of artwork for the People's Choice award. The event is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to purchase a unique piece of local artwork.
For the first time, in the Society's Silver Jubilee year, the Annual exhibition will be held at the Liphook Millennium Hall on Friday 6th to Sunday 8th October. We look forward to seeing you!
