Pilgrim & Russell - Recent Abstract Paintings

Peter Pilgrim and Bruce Russell have remarkably parallel professional stories, both creative and academic over fifty years. Their vibrant abstract paintings reflect their lifetimes' journeys - Pilgrim's long career in textile design, lately transitioning to canvas, and Russell's much earlier migration from typography to paint. They share the influence of contemporary jazz with its free-flowing fusion of structure and improvisation. both have exhibited around the world and have works in international collections.

Haslemere U3A talk: 'History of the Portsmouth Road'

With speaker Jennifer Goldsmith. The Portsmouth-London Road was a route of strategic importance, the vital link between the capital and the nationís greatest naval fortress. From the 17th century onwards major events of our nationís history were linked to the road, with famous and notorious people from all levels of society travelling its length. Among its alternative names were both the Royal and Assassinís Road, giving clues to a dramatic past. Guests welcome to two meetings a year. Tea and biscuits provided. www.haslemere-u3a.org.uk. In bad weather, please check with Don Stacey 01428-644 423 that the meeting will go ahead.

Surrey Contemporaries - Autumn Art Exhibition

This group of locally-based artists enjoy painting and exhibiting their work together. Working mainly in acrylics and oils, but with the odd watercolour thrown in, their work is varied and covers a wide range of subjects including landscapes, seascapes, animal art, portraiture and abstract art - most with a slightly contemporary twist.
