Twinning Association: Short Concert and 'Impromptu' Choir with Clive Osgood

A short concert is being staged as part of the forthcoming visit from our German twinned town, Horb am Neckar. The concert comprises short pieces played by Clive Osgood (resident organist of St Bart's Church, Haslemere) and a piece sung by an 'impromptu' choir convened for the occasion with singers from Horb and Haslemere. If you would like to be part of this choir please note rehearsals are on Thursday 17th and 24th May 8.30 pm - 9.30 pm at St Bart's Church and Friday 1st June 7.30 pm - 9.00 pm (with our German guests) at St Christopher's Church, and a final rehearsal on Saturday 2nd June from 9.15 am to 10.30, also at St Christopher's. If you like singing and would like to know more about (a) taking part in this venture or (b) the concert, please contact Clive Osgood cliveosgood@gmail.com.

If you'd simply like to come along and enjoy some good music you will be most welcome. Just turn up on the day! Twinning members and non-members all welcome.

Men's Breakfast

All men are invited to this Men’s Breakfast, an ecumenical event with people from a variety of parishes and denominations. There will be a full English buffet breakfast followed by a talk by guest speaker HH Judge Christopher Compston who was a Senior Circuit Judge, sitting in the Crown Court for 27 years. He retired five years ago and is now living in Oxfordshire. He will tell his story and talk about his current journey of faith. Fernhurst Choral Society performs Verdi's Requiem

The Fernhurst Choral Society will perform the ever-popular Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi accompanied by the Downland Sinfonia and conducted by Musical Director, Tim Ravalde. First performed in Milan in 1874, this dramatic, almost operatic work exhibits dynamic rhythms and beautiful melodies expressing the passion of the Catholic mass. Even for those not familiar with the Requiem, the stirring Dies irae will be instantly recognisable. U3A Meeting: Joe Lyons by Neville Lyons

Neville is a historian and archivist for the family business started by his relative Joe Lyons, who founded and ran the cafes and corner houses which were a feature of English life for most of the 20th century. With many archive photos and anecdotes, Neville will explore the social history of this famous institution which stretches from 1887 to 1998, affording a trip down memory lane with recollections of the tea shops, corner houses, hotels and of course the ' Nippy ‘ waitresses. A remarkable entrepreneur, though with no experience of the catering business, Joe Lyons built the world’s first food empire, fed 15,000 guests at royal garden parties, managed a big wartime ordnance project and developed in-house the first business computer. The Haslemere Gin Festival: Gin in June

Haslemere is very proud to be hosting its first ever Gin Festival this June, thanks to Visit Haslemere (formerly the Haslemere Visitor Information Centre) and Haslemere Museum. In the beautiful setting of Haslemere Museum, gin enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet local distillers in person, chat about their gin, sample unusual and intriguing varieties and take part in informative masterclasses which will take place throughout the evening, and also hear talks from gin industry experts.
