Why Should we Support Fairtrade?
Fairtrade is now a globally recognised movement bringing relief to millions of low paid producers.
Within our global economy it is recognised that small producers lack a voice to achieve the best price for their produce.
Consumers can be the voice of low-paid producers in the developing world as well as for the UK farmers.
Fairtrade is in discussions with UK producers too.
Voting with our wallets and shopping with a conscience are ways to ensure that we influence the global economy.
There are now over 300 towns in the UK which have been granted Fairtrade Town status because of their decision as councillors, retailers and the public to adopt the requirements and responsibilities that come with being a Fairtrade Town including HASLEMERE, Farnham, Guildford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Woking. Over 200 are working towards Fairtrade Town status including Midhurst, Petersfield, Chichester and Winchester.
