Abitha is an eight year old girl who is studying in second standard. Her younger sister is five years old and is in her first year at School. Their father became HIV positive while working in Mumbai and subsequently infected their mother. Luckily the children tested negative. Abitha’s father died four years ago, leaving nothing for the family. Both her father and mother’s parents do not communicate or care for the family. Her mother and the children are completely ignored and neglected by family members due to the stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS. They live in a small rented house. One of the KWTC beneficiaries directed them to the Trust and the Trust is now supporting both girls under the KWTC outreach sponsorship programme.
