KWTC was delighted to host a two day visit from our Indian Honorary Patron, His Excellency Mr. Mike Nithavrianakis, Deputy British High Commissioner to southern India. Mike came with his wife Libby and their two children Jack & Lucy, some 600 miles from their residence in Chennai. Tuesday 10th August started with an Indian breakfast with all the Trust’s residential children in Kings Field followed by the official opening of ‘Kings Haven’ the new Boys’s Home. Kings School held a special assembly in their honour and Mike was welcomed officially by our Chairman, Colin Wagstaff. They listened to choirs and watched Indian classical & folk dancing followed by an extravaganza of red, white and blue was performed by the KWTC Trust boys to the music of ‘I vow to thee my country’.
The party then toured Kings School campus and saw academic studies and students in music, art and the science labs. Mike and his family had lunch with Boarders in the Kings School dining room. In the afternoon they visited the Kings Day Care Centre for children with physical and mental disabilities and also visited the home of one very poor child with muscular dystrophy.
In the evening, His Excellency attended a buffet supper with senior trust and School Staff, children and invited guests. The evening’s climax was a stunning firework display by Standard Fireworks Ltd, which was enjoyed as well by all the residential Trust and School boarding children.
Mike and his family left on 11th August en route for Kerala via Kanyakumari, southern tip of India. Their visit was a great success and much enjoyed by all at the Trust and Kings School.
