The Tsunami brought tragedy and devastation to many fishing villages close to the Trust’s base in Tamil Nadu State.  Three of the Trust’s staff and their families were swept away in the disaster and, with many of the Trust’s children and staff  coming from fishing villages, the emotional toll was even higher.
Kings World Trust was involved from ‘day one’ with the procurement, transportation and distribution of emergency aid supplies to 17,000 homeless families in 14 relief centers.
The Trust built temporary shelters and communal toilets and bathrooms in areas set up close to the devastated villages.

Rebuilding of livelihoods and infrastructure in the adopted village of Kuthankuly including:
*     Sets of fishing nets to 554 fishing families
*     Construction of a Workshop to repair and rebuild fishing boats, nets and   engines
*     Building a new Primary School to replace one damaged beyond repair
*     Construction and management of a new ‘Youth Activities Centre’ for          Kuthankuly
*     Construction of a new ‘Community Centre’ for Kuthankuly.
