It seems amazing that just three short weeks ago my sons, Oscar (age 13) and Andreas (age 11), and I were greeted at the Trivandrum airport by Alwin and the driver.  Their warm smiles and words of welcome made us feel at home immediately.  Our lives have been touched in so many wonderful ways by the experience of living in King’s Village, a loving home for orphaned and homeless boys.
Each morning we rode the school bus to Kings English School, where the boys joined a Standard VIII class and participated in the daily routine of academic classes, assemblies and sports activities.  While they were engaged with their new friends, I helped where I could in the delivery of Science and English lessons for students in Standards IV through VII.  It has been a great privilege to have worked side by side with such excellent educators, students and volunteers.  I also very much enjoyed volunteering at the local government school where many of the Trust children attend school.  I only wish I had thought to bring with me more books and games to help with teaching the children English.
Other happy memories include evenings spent playing badminton & volleyball, assisting the boys with their studies (even conducting a few experiments!), conversing with the other volunteers, and, of course, dining on Grace’s excellent meals.  We will especially miss her refreshing sweet lemonade that never failed to re-energize us at the end of a hot summer day.  On the weekends we joined the Trust children on scenic field trips and picnics to local towns, the beach and a nearby wildlife preserve.  We eagerly await the Founder’s Day party, when we will join in the celebrations, and in my case, wear a sari for the first time.
Thank you so much for our amazing introduction to the beauty and wonder of India!  We will forever treasure the memory of our time here.
