Belted Galloway Cows on Marley Common
Three young Belted Galloway cows were first released on Marley Common last year. The Black Down & Hindhead Supporters also funded the purchase of two heifers, both in calf. Both heifers have now produced calves called ‘George’ and ‘May’ who are doing well. This project is being undertaken jointly with the Linchmere Society. These cattle will help maintain the newly restored heath-land, which in turn will encourage a range of heathland loving species, some of which are endangered.
