Haslemere is exceptionally fortunate. Not only is it surrounded by some of South East England's most beautiful countryside, but large areas of the most spectacular heathland hills are owned and managed by the National Trust, safeguarding their future and ensuring access forever for everyone.
Founder member of the National Trust, Sir Robert Hunter lived in Three Gates Lane, Haslemere and the Trust's first acquisition was Hindhead Common and the Devil's Punch Bowl in 1906. At that time a voluntary committee was set up to manage the land and local committees, supported by membership subscriptions, have existed ever since. Today the Black Down & Hindhead have a Committee which advises the National Trust on all aspects of the management of their local properties and uses funds from Supporters’ subscriptions and publication sales for improvements.
You don't need to be a member of the National Trust to become a local Supporter. Your membership will make a real difference to these wonderful local assets and your subscription will be spent on agreed improvements.
