Museum Staff in Stitches

The Chairman, President and Staff of Haslemere Educational Museum took time out before Christmas to perform a very important task . . . that of each making their own rug knot on the Haslemere Coat of Arms at The Oriental Rug Gallery at Weyhill, Haslemere. Haslemere in Stitches showcases the hand weaving of the Haslemere Coat of Arms in wool and silk on a traditional loom and is being woven by Anas al Akhoann, a fourth generation master rug crafstman. Since July 2008 more than 800 people have added their own knot, some from as far a field as Australia, USA, France, Italy and South Afric as well as all over the UK. Once the Haslemere in Stitches weaving is completed, which should be in the Spring of this year, it is going to be presented to Melanie Odell, Haslemere's Mayor, on behalf of the Town and will be on display at Haslemere Museum.
