"Grayshott School is a rapidly improving school with many strengths"

OFSTED report July, 1998.

Dear Parents,

The aim of this web site is to inform you about our school and to extend a warm welcome to anyone wishing to visit us.

Our school is a close and caring community which values each child as an individual within the school group. Teachers are committed to encouraging children to work to high academic, spiritual and social standards and have equally high expectations of good behaviour.

Grayshott Primary is a busy school in which a balanced and varied curriculum is experienced, with an emphasis on basic literacy and numeracy. We feel we are a vital part of the wider community and have a close association with Grayshott Church.

If you have any questions or would like to visit please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Yours sincerely,

Mrs. F.A. Hall, M.A.
Headteacher

Mission Statement

Grayshott Primary School is a place where children are able to learn and play in a stimulating, secure and caring environment which enables them to realise their potential academically, socially, spiritually and creatively. We believe in high standards of work and behaviour.

Aims of the school

To provide a secure environment where children are valued and respected so that they can realise their potential academically, socially and creatively.

To promote high standards of work and behaviour.

To ensure that the children follow a broad and balanced programme of work which will deliver the National Curriculum in a planned, progressive and enjoyable way from Reception to Year 6.

To broaden the chidren's awareness of the world and its peoples, developing their respect for and their understanding of other cultures and religious values.

To work in partnership with parents in the best interests of their children, providing an environment where parents feel welcomed and valued.

To respond to national initiatives in ways which will enhance and support the learning of all children.

To value the work and contribution of all adults who are involved in the care and education of the children of Grayshott Primary School.

To maintain and develop our relationship with St. Luke's Church, Grayshott.

To continue to build upon and promote close community links with the people who live and work in Grayshott Village.

Located in the village of Grayshott, on the Hampshire Surrey border, Grayshott Primary School is a Church of England (Controlled) Primary School. This means that the school was founded by a voluntary body, but now is maintained by the Local Education Authority.

The original school building was built in 1871 and founded by the local l'Anson family. A plaque over the entrance describes it as 'Grayshott National School'. The school has always had close ties with the Church of England and is linked with the diocese of Guildford who give us a great deal of valuable support. A close relationship also exists with St. Luke's Church, Grayshott. The Vicar takes regular assemblies and the children go to St. Luke's for Harvest, Christmas and Easter celebrations. Teachers also make use of the Church building as a learning resource linked to History, Geography and R.E. teaching.

Although we are a Church of England School, children of other faiths attend the school and we welcome families of any faith or denomination.

The school is located on an attractive green site, and has its own sports field and swimming pool for use in the summer. The grounds also include a variety of environmental study areas, a netball pitch, a soft-surface play area and other hard surface play areas.

The school includes a recently modernised Victorian building, a separate block with hall, activity area, group room, kitchen and offices. A temporary building includes a library and resource work room.

Liaison with Parents

Education is definitely best through a partnership! When a child starts school, parents are asked to sign a home/school agreement which sets out our commitment to the parents and the parents' commitment to involvement in the child's education. This is not just a formality - we fully intend to honour our side of the agreement and hope that you will do your best to honour yours.

Regular contact between the school and children's homes is considered most important and we are always pleased to welcome parents to school during the normal school day and to discuss any problems before they become major issues.

We are delighted if parents can join us for assembly on Friday mornings.

PTA

The school has an active Parent Teacher Association which organises activities for fund raising for the school or just for fun. In 1998 - 1999 activities included jumble sales, Christmas Bazaar, Summer Fair, adult social evening, two discos for the children. Large amounts of money were raised through these events. The PTA are supporting the development of the school grounds. They are currently raising money to buy new computer equipment, and further increase the library stock.

Parents are most welcome to help out in school with a range of activities, either on a regular or occasional basis and we are grateful for any time that can be spared. Please let us know if you are willing to help or have any special interests.

Currently parents help with reading activities, working with small groups, general classroom duties, organising the library, gardening and changing for swimming.
