How To Join, Where To Go & When The club is open to all girls aged 7 - 16 years old of all abilities. We are a very friendly club and welcome new members. To join, just turn up to Monday night training at The Edge sports centre next to Woolmer Hill School in Haslemere at 6pm and finishing at 7pm. Here is a map to help you find us. We are currently playing inside in the gym at The Edge. We will be moving outside when the weather warms up at the start of April 2002. If you are not sure where to go, please ask at reception. To play you will not need lots of expensive kit. We recommend trainers and some shin pads. It is worth bringing a water bottle or other drink with you and a waterproof jacket in case the weather is not so good. If you would like more information about joining please email Ian Cherrill or for information about the running of the club you can email Mary Foryszewski.
Answers... Is training cancelled when there is bad weather? If we are scheduled to play outside then the best way to check if training is still on is to phone The Edge on 01428 644577. They will know if training is cancelled - if they have no news then training is on. Who are our coaches? We currently have four coaches. John Marden and Andy Metcalfe are signed up to the Active Sports Programme run by Sport England and Simon O'Dell and Margaret Quinnell are hoping to begin the course soon. How much does it cost to join? It costs £25 for the season, most of which goes towards paying for using the facilities at The Edge and equipment. Who runs the club? The club is run by volunteers - mostly parents of the girls who play. Mary Foryszewski set up the club and is the treasurer - she has many years experience helping with the Haslemere Boys team and is active on Sport Haslemere. Other parents help with the coaching and the publicity. New help is always welcome! |

Questions... What if its bad weather - is training cancelled? Who are the coaches? How much does it cost to join? How do I know what is on - is there a diary of events? Who runs the club? How It All Started The Girls Football Committee (GFC) was set up in May 2000. The project was inspired by young people for young people. The GFC is made up of three senior members and three youth members. Each member was designated a special role, the object was to set up football for girls aged seven to sixteen years old. The GFC placed an ad in the Haslemere Herald in May 2000 advertising an Open Day at The Edge for girls interested in playing football, the response was overwhelming, over thirty six girls registered to play, each week we continue to register new members. In November 2000 the GFC set up an independent club "Haslemere and Borders Girls Football Club". Since the project was initially set up the GFC has gone from strength to strength. We are now affiliated to the Surrey FA, we have extra coaches at training sessions and we have a parent focus group that will feed into the GFC views and suggestions from members and their parents. We the GFC are committed to providing football for girls, we believe food facilities are of paramount importance to our success. The year ahead will provide us with many challenges, but our aim is to put the girls first. As like any new venture funding is an issue, we don't want to discourage young people from participating in sport because of the cost we would rather seek help and support from the local community to make it more affordable, we believe if we all contribute it is a good investment in our youth through sport. The GFC in association with The Edge is a good example in partnerships working together to achieve success. We believe you can not have a good partnership without first having a good relationship. We have proved the combination between the two has resulted in Haslemere Town having its first Girls Football Club. We would welcome a permanent partnership with The Edge and HSA. We are confident of retaining success and further growth. The acknowledgements below is a dedication to all those who have made it possible: The Girls Football Committee, Kevin, Alex, Jan & Jade |
