On the 21st May 2001, members of the Haslemere & Borders Girls Football Club met at the Lythe Hill Hotel for
their first awards evening, hosted by Chairman, Mary Foryszewski and committee member, Jade Brindley.
Mary started by welcoming the evening's sponsor, Phil Bates from Grayshott Pottery and the four guest speakers - Eric Thompson, Haslemere Sports Association, Neil Morris, Woolmer Hill School, Town Mayor, Councillor Michael Barnes and Michelle Jeffcoate from Fulham Footbal Club. Jade added that being part of the committee, comprising mainly of young people, had not only been fun, but had enabled them to develop and learn new skills which would be an asset to their future. The committee wanted to reward the efforts of all the members and also individuals for personal outstanding achievements. |
Individual awards were offered for:
Most skillful player
Most enthusiastic player
Mosr improved player
Most courageous player
Best sportmanship award
Player of the year
Best all rounder
Eric Thompson from Haslemere Sports Association congratulated the club on its progress in the first year of operation and offered the continuing supprt of the Sports Association. He then presented every girl with a medal in recognition of their commitment to their club. He also presented Eleanor Benson with a prize for the Youngest Player (8 years) and special congratulations were given to members who had showed particluar commitment to the club - Jessica Quinnell, Rebecca Strudwick, Ellen Ragnasson, Jessica Ragnasson, Josie Phillimore and Hannah Lovelock.
Neil Morris head of P.E. from Woolmer Hill School then presnted the first of the individual awards "Most Skillfull Player". This was awarded to Kayley Gordon in the Under 10s and Stacey Allen in the U15s. Members of the committe then presented "Most Enthusiastic Player" - Stevie Cherrill, "Most Improved Player" - Kate Anderson and "Most Courageous Player" - Jenny Hunt.
Town Mayor, Michael Barnes then spoke about how important a part sport plays in all our lives. The taking part and the loosing as much as the winning forming our characters for the future. Melanie Odell from Grayswood Computer Sevices then presented the cup for Sportsmanship to Daniella Thompson.
Michelle Jeffcoate from Fulham Football Club then spoke about how delighted she was to be involved with Haslemere and Borders Girls Football Club and how amazed she was at the rate of successful development. She said it was only a year since she first been asked to be involved and to see so many members and such enthusiasm was remarkable in such a short space of time. She then presented "Player of the Year" to Emily Zirps in the U10s and Michelle Blackman in the U15s.
Club Chairman Mary Foryszewski then presented the Millenium Award. She said that the award was symbolic of the success and achievements of the past year. She was immensely appreciative of the personal efforts which had helped the club succeed and offered her gratitude to:
Trainers - Verardo Ricci, Steve Brindley, Kevin Blackman, Britt, Angela, Sue and Margaret, Simon Odell, Daniel Kinch and John Marden.
Those offering advice and support - Neil Morris, Daniel barriss, Ben and all the staff at The Edge, Surrey Sports development Unit, Caroline Osgood and David Gill from Waverley Borough Council, Haslemere Town Youth Footbal Club, Sport Haslemere, The Haslemere Herald, Nick Chilton and Eric Thompson from Haslemere Sports Association, her family - Stefan, Alex and Jan and special thanks to Michelle Jeffcoate and Fulham Football Club.

She also thanked the parents and guardians of the players for their support over the year and lastly the girls without whom none of this would have been possible. She encouraged the youngsters to keep sight of their dreams and never to give up on their ambitions. Before presenting the award, she paid special tribute to the members of the committe for their hard work, dedication and support. She said that this was a young person's project inspired by young people for young people and the committee were the young people to be rewarded. |
All members of the committee were then awarded tokens of appreciation and these were presented by Phil Bates of Grayshott Pottery and Clare, Duty Manager of the Lythe Hill Hotel.
Mary then presented the Millenium Award to Sadie Gladwin.
