Gregarians run 3 sides, all now league teams, covering all levels of ability, from those wanting seriously competitive hockey and weekly training, to the third eleven which is more for the less ambitious player, yet for someone who would still like to have a fulfilling challenge on a Saturday, and come to training if the urge take them.
Training is on a Monday Evening, at Woolmer Hill Sports ground, 8.45-10.00pm, all welcome, a good point of first contact, just show up. The junior players benefit from free training courtesy of our sponsorship from Moodies professional caterers.
The Gregarians currently award 4 trophies, this years winners are as follows:
THOMSON TROPHY Most improved player: Helen Mason
MOODIES CUP young player of the year: Kim Whalley
HENDERSON CUP Highest goalscorer: Katriona Leather
CRACKNELL CUP services to the cup: Pauline Henderson
The Gregarians Hockey Club last year celebrated their 50th anniversary, and celebrations began in September with a 'Carole Whalley' style tournament, organised by Liz Oehlers. Lynn Marriner manned a barbecue and five teams played friendly mixed hockey all day. The winning team was the reds, all receiving a bottle of wine as a prize. The match fee for this is being donated to the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust, a sum increased by the generosity of The Edge Sports Centre not charging for the use of the Desso pitch.
