GRANTS COMMITTEE

The Grants Committee is elected by the Town Council from its own members. It is a committee of the Council and makes recommendations to the Council on small grants. It meets in private, without the press or public. It usually meets three times a year.

At present the following Councillors are the members of the Grants Committee.

Members - Pat Blades, Michael Dover, Jim Edwards (Mayor), Fay Foster, Brigitte Hewett, Peter Isherwood, William King, Stephen Mulliner, Libby Piper and David Reavley

The current year's budget was £10,000 but this was augmented was by a further £5000 which had been saved from the previous year. New applications are considered on their merits, bearing in mind the following criteria

  • The amount of the Grants Budget available
  • The benefit(s) to the community
  • The viability of the project
  • The lillklihood of attracting funds from other sources, i e "gearing*
  • The financial status of the applicant
  • Applications must not be retrospective unless there is a strong health and safety case

    Large-scale applications (for £10,000 or more) must be submitted through the Clerk by 30 September each year.

    In general the Panel avoids giving grants for items that constitute revenue or core funding. Preference is usually given to items which enable "Pump Priming", and Matched Funding is supported.
